MAGNESIUM BATHS

Magnesium baths are healthy, relaxing and soothing as well as being a great self-care ritual. I change between using magnesium chloride flakes and epsom salt in my baths as magnesium chloride are more for boosting magnesium levels, while epsom salt are more for detox. Epsom salt is a mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate, and is technically known as magnesium sulfate.

Magnesium is one of the top mineral deficiencies in the world, so as far as I'm concerned EVERYONE could use some extra magnesium, whether it’s from capsules, through magnesium baths or sprays and creams, because it's a mineral that most of us are lacking in due to stress, poor diets, and depleted soil. Most medications and especially the birth control pill, also depletes magnesium levels further.

Appropriate levels of magnesium are key to good health, and this essential mineral is needed for over 300 reactions in the body. (Turn that the other way; if you are deficient, more than 300 reactions aren’t working properly!) Magnesium helps control and regulate digestion, muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, the elimination of harmful toxins, blood pressure and the making of protein, bone, and DNA to brain health as well as playing a big role in our bodies energy production. Magnesium literally boost energy.

Magnesium is also essential for making progesterone ladies!

For a magnesium bath, add in either magnesium chloride or epsom salt. They are not to be used together, so choose one at a time. Soak for minimum 20 minutes. Cofactors needed for magnesium absorption are boron and bicarbonate. Boron is extremely important for human health, sadly it’s one of the most deficient trace minerals in the world today. I add both to the water, together with magnesium chloride or epsom salt, to better utilise the magnesium. You can find bicarbonate here and borax here. Magnesium chloride here and epsom salt here or here. If you don’t have a bathtub- do a foot bath! The absorption of magnesium through the feet are great. I buy all the ingredients in bulk and store it in glass jars in the bathroom.

Bath soak

2 cups (or more) magnesium chloride or epsom salts

1 cup bicarbonate of soda

2 tablespoons borax

Foot soak

1 cup magnesium chloride or epsom salt

1/2 cup bicarbonate of soda

1 tablespoon borax.
