HORMONAL BIRTH CONTROL

Hormonal birth control is one of the things that ruined my health. Using the pill caused me major health problems, and I wasn't even aware of the problems they were causing me, while on it, because the synthetic hormones masked everything that was going on in my body.

Hormonal imbalances such as severe pain before my period, irregular periods, acne, hypothyroidism (low thyroid function), low energy, depression and moodiness as well as hyper pigmentation, nutritional deficiencies, leaky gut and what more was some of the issues I got after being on hormonal birth control for 5 + years. I’ve never in my life experienced period pains before after coming off the pill. Then I had overwhelming pain. (Painful periods are shown to be in the same category of pain as heart attacks) So why is it that it came only after I quit? It’s because hormonal birth control causes an hormonal imbalance in your body, which again contributes to period pain, acne, infertility and so on- but while you are on it, it doesn’t always show.

So let’s be clear: hormonal birth control causes you to get an hormonal imbalance. An hormonal imbalance is what it’s supposed to create. (If it didn’t, it wouldn’t work the way it’s designed to). Hormonal birth control works by literally shutting off the connection between your brain and your ovaries, which is supposed to talk to each other, which creates a disconnect in your whole hormonal system. This means that a hormonal imbalance isn’t a side-effect of the pill, it’s an effect. The whole point of hormonal contraceptives is to disrupt the hormonal balance. It’s how it works. Otherwise it wouldn’t.

Hormonal birth control is really outdated, because not only do we have better options for managing hormonal problems like period pain, we also have better options for contraceptives. However, I do respect those women who choose to use hormonal birth control, even though I would never recommend it. My aim is only that it is an informed decision.
