Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil is the most used essential oil in the world, and one of my absolute favorites. There is a variety of different ways you can use lavender, and I use it as a natural laundry softener and rinse together with vinegar, which will make your sheets and towels smell fresh and floral, as a natural perfume, in face and body oils or straight on my body whenever I need the calming scent, to name a few.

Its various health benefits range from pain relief, mental clarity, improving sleep and reducing stress with its calming properties. Lavender is a anti-bacterial oil, and perfect to use as a cleanser, in a natural deodorant or in housecleaning products. I've chosen to write about three of the many benefits of lavender, and how to use and incorporate the wonderful scent into your daily life.

Improves Sleep and Insomnia

Because of lavender oil’s relaxing and calming properties, it works to improve sleep and treat insomnia. A study from 2015 showed that those who were using lavender oil displayed a significant improvement in sleep quality when compared to the control group.

Use to relieve stress and improve sleep, put a diffuser by your bed and diffuse oils while you sleep at night or elsewhere in your space while you’re reading or winding down in the evening. You can also apply lavender oil topically behind your ears for the same benefits, or rub 1-2 drops on the wrists or at the soles of the feet.

Anti-Bacterial

Lavender is a powerful anti-bacterial herb, and the oil can be mixed into natural cleaning products for a better result.

Use as an efficient ingredient in household cleaners such as laundry softener or universal cleaning sprays. You can also use a few drops of lavender oil to clean infected wounds, prevent infection, and promote faster healing.

Reduces stress

Lavender makes wonders as a natural stress relief, and provides a calming effect and instant relaxation as it helps melting away feelings of stress and tension.

Rub or spray on temples, forehead, and back of jaw or simply rub 2-3 drops of lavender oil in your palms and take a deep breath. It can also be used as a preventative before entering a stressful environment. Add a few drops of lavender to your bath water for the same benefits. Whether applied topically, or added to a bath, lavender oil is the perfect solution when you want to unwind at the end of a long day.
